Hallie picked up the phone and dialed the number on the screen in front of her. It had been three weeks since she’d chucked her husband out after discovering he’d been having an affair with the cleaner, and unable to face the rest of the household staff, she’d asked them to leave as well. They wouldn’t suffer for a job, she knew her husband would employ them in his second property.

“Hello, yes, I’m phoning to inquire about your pool cleaning service,” said Hallie, eager to get someone over as quickly as possible. Firing all your staff was one thing, but when you lived in a mansion the size of hers, there was no way you could keep up with all the jobs that came with running it.

“It’s a standard size in-ground pool. My last cleaner left a lot of supplies here when he left, so your staff are welcome to use them if they need them. I do need someone to come out quite urgently. The pool hasn’t been cleaned for a good three weeks now, and its color has changed to a murky green. It may need a full drain and refill”.

Hallie used to love swimming in her pool. It was one of the things she did for fun. She’d inherited her money as a child, and had never really had to work, though she did write the odd romance novel on the side just for something to do. After an intense morning of writing, she’d put her bikini on and ease herself into the pool. Sometimes she’d do a few laps, others she’d just relax on a Lilo, letting the sun warm her skin and ease her worries. That was before her husband had cheated on her, though. Over the last three weeks, she had hardly had the energy to get out of bed, let alone write or swim.

“You can send someone over tomorrow? That sounds fabulous. Thank you again”. Hallie hung up the phone feeling glad that she’d accomplished something. The money was all hers by rights, and she knew that in the long term, she’d be completely fine. Her rat bastard of a husband would soon know what hit him.

Picking up the phone again, she dialed the number for her lawyer to start divorce proceedings.
